World Environment Day 2023 #BeatPlasticPollution | D&A Boosts Circular Economy

2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the UN General Assembly establishing World Environment Day, this year’s theme is Solutions to Plastic Pollution. It is a reminder that people’s actions on plastic pollution matters. It encourages governments and corporates to tackle plastic pollution as one of their priorities.

Given the topic of the year, UN environment program released a report on how the world can end plastic pollution and create a circular economy. The report proposes a system’s change to address the causes of plastic pollution, combining reducing problematic and unnecessary plastic use with a market transformation towards circularity in plastics.

Boost Circular Economy

Circular economy has attracted much attention under the topic of sustainable development. As a responsible chemical manufacturer, D&A Group has been committed to researching sustainable development practices from different levels and has formulated a series of feasible measures to boost a greener future.

Dedicate to Developing Bio-based Products

The role of bio-based materials in the circular economy is to provide sustainable and renewable resources, giving designers and engineers an alternative sustainable option in the process of raw material sourcing and product design.

In the global environment where carbon emissions are concerned, low-carbon bio-based products have become the best alternative to petrochemical products, which can help to continuously reduce CO2 emissions and reduce the impact on the environment.

D&A Edge Polymer, a brand under the group, launched innovative bio-based edge paint solutions for the leather goods industry. The bio-based contents of of BIO-Circul®️ Series Edge Paint are determined by ASTM D6866 standard test method and certified by USDA.

Become bluesign® system partner

bluesign® system partner is one of the global leaders in the evaluation of textile chemicals.  bluesign® SYSTEM defines a set of chemical criteria, including responsible use of resources, effective management of hazardous materials and elimination of all hazardous substances. In the meantime, the bluesign® SYSTEM encourages the system partners to continuously improve the safety of using chemicals, optimize processes regarding resource consumption and the product design enhancement in terms of environmental impact.

In recent years, D&A Edge Polymer and Technical Control successively passed the audit and became bluesign® system partner. As part of the company’s sustainable development, D&A Edge Polymer successfully becomes bluesign® system partner which indicates that the whole production process has met the most strict standard listed on bluesign® CRITERIA, from raw materials input to finished products. This is to eliminates harmful substances from production process.

Complete Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM)  Self-Assessment

The Higg Facility Environmental Module (Higg FEM) is a tool for assessing an individual facility's sustainability performance by standardizing the criteria by which a factory measures and evaluates its environmental performance on an annual basis. The robust impact assessment – which reviews environmental management systems, energy use, emissions, water usage, wastewater, and waste and chemical management at the facility level- helps manufacturing locations establish an environmental baseline to pursue continuous improvement

D&A Edge Polymer has completed the FEM Self-Assessment for two consecutive years. This year, it has verified the factory module assessment through a qualified independent third party, which can help us understand the environmental performance and impact of a specific facility in a clear and comprehensive manner. Furthermore, we can gain insight into and improve the group's sustainable development practices through the evaluation report.

Obtain ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Certification

ISO 14001 is internationally recognized as the leading environmental management system (EMS) standard. The ISO 14001 standard provides a systematic framework for integrating environmental management practices by supporting environmental protection, pollution prevention, waste reduction, and lower energy and material consumption.

At present, the main production facilities of D&A Group have passed the audit and obtained the ISO 14001:2015 environmental management certification. Through the implementation of systematic management procedures, including resource and energy management, waste gas emission, water quality use and discharge, noise control, etc., we aim to reduce the impact on the environment, so as to practice our commitment to environmental protection.
